In Oceanic tribal cultures, objects such as the omamori are said to have mana, an impersonal force or life energy that can change a person’s luck. Mana can travel in artifacts that are passed from one person to another; objects that have passed through multiple generations have special potency. The power of these artifacts is in the stories and meanings people give to them. It’s like they have a heart and spirit – kokoro in Japanese.

The most recent JC Report focuses on India, covering Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in Delhi and Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai. The highlight for me was an insightful interview conducted by global fashion guru Jason Campbell (the JC of JC Report) who speaks to  Bandana Tewari,  who is equally guru like in her knowledge of the Indian Fashion scene. You could call it the meeting of the gurus.

I probably would have never seen it, otherwise.

Another intimate off site preview show preceeding Rosemount Australian Fashion week featured new generation label One Fell Swoop.

The allure of One Fell Swoop is not just in the little precious detail or the uncompromising and intriguing design. Nor is it in their method of sculpting the figure, to develop and define its natural line. The allure of One Fell Swoop is in the way the pieces blend antiquity with the contemporary; evoking memory whilst simultaneously creating it.

They will be showing their full range in another group show at Fashion Week

Nicholas X Morley Fashion Show 07

Sydney Australia 27th April

Buddhist Punk, which Morley co-founded in 1999, was based between London and Bali. The name was a fusion of Eastern sensibility and a risky attitude, exemplified by the punk movement (a la London) form the success of Buddhist Punk from New York fashion week, this show was the launch of his new unisex label Nicholas X Morley

Inspired by his playful rock'n'roll vision, the collection line has a playful fusion of punk and rock aesthetic. There are '80s-inspired whimsical graphical prints, silk-screened hoodies, T-shirts and jackets emblazoned with whimsical pop culture slogans and cult symbolism
