Funny guppy fish
Today i am working with Tintti Alanko, the makeup artist i worked with at the Vero Moda Show. We are shooting anna magazine!
I had meetings in the morning at nokia, ate lunch with oskar, and went to my editorial job booking at 3pm. Shooting editorial is much different than catalog. For one thing, the makeup artist has a lot more freedom of interperitation based on the colors of the clothes, the style, and the story we are telling with the photos.
Second, the clothes are from all different brands and mixed together to illustrate or talk about a trend or "lesson" in how to use this season's clothes to create a look. Accessories play a big sold and shoes, coats, shirts, etc must all be available for sale in the shops by the time the photos print.
In the editorial shootings in finland it is the editors who are the most important. It is they who tell the story and it is they who do the styling.
Another big difference is that for editorial you get paid very little if anything (the more important the mag the less you are paid). The reason for this is that the mag gives you exposure and photos in print showing that you work, for your portfolio. The more work you have to show in your portfolio means the more you are paid for catalog. It's kind of like a CV or resume. So working for magazines means you can have a better chance to make money in catalog and advertising campains because more people can see what you and know who finds value in you as a model and is booking you.
Editorial is also more fun photos because everyone is more free to be creative (depends on the magazine).
I really loved the clothes for this shooting. They were really colorful and totally made for me! You know it's a great job when the people you work with have a lot of experience and you want to buy all the clothes for yourself and year them as styled in the photos!
