Today i am in berlin for the webCUTS internet films awards. I am presenting the winner for the special award. I can't tell you who it is, but i can tell you i have actually used this program they used and have history with it. Then too, it really is a special award because it is community based and many other cool things. I am very honored to present this film at this event! Only thing is, they gave me a long speech i have to learn now. . .
here we have Eckhard M. Jäger, the founder of webcuts, talk about why he created this film festival for internet movies:
before the screening of the webcuts, we had a vip event where there was a pannel and a discussion about why internet films are important, how you can use the internet as a medium to promote your work. and is there a future of internet and films?
professor ulrich weinberg, from the flim and television academy, who was one of the judges, recommended that newbies, interested in experimenting with 3D graphics should try the program by google called SKETCH UP:
if you like animation, then i would highly recommend to buy the dvd--all the films were amazing and really top--i dont know how the judges were able to actually pick a winner!

many thanks to sven assmann for bringing me to present the special award at webcuts 06! the special award was given to the OPEN ORANGE MOVIE PROJECT, ELEPHANTS DREAM. the project was given this award because of the following: --it is the first open movie: made totally with open source software and all the source files available for download and mashup under creative commons liscence --co-production between montevideo and the blender foundation. the blender foundation financed their part of the project through a pre-sale of the "extended dvd edition" to their online community. --it's outstanding graphics and creative design made by a world wide team of creatives and designers for this reason it made ELEPHANTS DREAM the precursor for cutting edge internet films!
