s60 V3

S60_3rdedition

i was working on a theme for Fon for Martin's N80 (which was taking a lot of effor because the N80 has SO MANY FEATURES) when i finally reach the end and i want to publish--only to find out that i can not publish it because i need a certificate.

certificates i heard are very expensive and i have yet today installed a CERTIFIED application on my s60 platform--not even nokia lifeblog is certified.

my question here is: if s60 want to reach xxxmillion of users world wide by 2007, then why are they requiring that developers need certification? how will small developers, let alone the 2million developers of forum nokia, afford to get certified? if they expect the mobile revolution to take off--why are they slapping down on the mobile market growth with this certification, that until now has never been mandetory.

i think it is a big mistake to require costly processes to be obtained for students, enthusiasts, part-time developers, small companies, etc. it's going to really put a kink in the process of innovation on these platforms and basically it means that if you have the money (ie "if you are a serious developer") then you will get certified.

i think not and it sucks cuz i would have loved to make themes for all my 360Fashion bloggers for their phones not to mention for Foneros of the world banning together to show their support.

if anyone knows a way around this so i can publish my theme it would be great. thanks. maybe nokia could invent a creative commons for symbian apps certificate for all the little people out there.
